Support wheels on the spacing forks can now be used on every surface and with every pot size!

Halfway through last year, Visser has developed the 'support wheels’ for the spacing fork. This development has proven to be a real hit! Many of these wheels have been installed on existing forks and the patented wheels are being supplied standard on new forks. These wheels allow almost anyone to learn to space pots easily and neatly within 15 minutes.

As always, we continue to see whether there are more applications that could improve. One challenge we soon came across was the application for a small pot on an irregular surface.

Wouters greenhouses from Ens, one of the largest bedding plant greenhouses in Europe with a total area of 24 ha, wanted to work with a fork of 4.60 meters wide suitable for pots with a diameter of 10.5 cm in a greenhouse of 9.60 meters wide. The surface at Wouters is covered with ground cover and not real flat, so the support wheels would not always touch the floor and couldn’t do their job properly. On irregular surfaces, the distance between the fork and the ground is too variable to space the pots. Especially with a small pot there is the risk that pots tip over, due to the high distance and the irregularity of the surface.

For this problem we mounted a roller underneath the entire width of the fork, which is mounted at approximately 30 cm from the tip. All teeth lay on the role which ensures a constant height of the teeth to the ground.

To ensure that it is possible to pick up the pots from the ground or from a trolley, the role can be moved to the backside of the fork. Therefore the outer teeth are reinforced and provided with an extra chain that pulls the role backwards and forwards. In this way the role can be positioned at the tip of the fork during spacing and moved away during collecting the pots.

For new greenhouse projects Visser advises a greenhouse width of 9.60 meters. Two forks of 4.60 meters can be used on any surface and with any pot size. The capacity is huge in this format.

There is no faster and cheaper internal transportation system than the Space-O-Mat and at the same time very easy to operate by almost everyone.
